Types of Dental Braces
There are many
types of braces available that can fulfil all the dental needs of an
individual. Each of these dental braces has its advantages and disadvantages
and also varies in terms of price. Modern types of braces have many shapes and
sizes, and can also overturn a person's smile and physical appearance.
There are five types of braces available that have been identified
below:
●
Traditional metal braces:
These kinds of
braces have brackets and wires that are made of metal. Traditional metal braces
are popularly used by millions of people around the world. Starting with a
heavy structure to being extremely light-weight, these braces can be availed in
different shapes and sizes. The new heated arch wires are the latest additions
in this sector. The new heated archwires braces provide better flexibility when
you eat or talk.
●
Ceramic braces:
Although bound with
the same metal wires, ceramic braces consist of ceramic parts. These are tied
up with elastics and rubbers to make it function more effectively. A new
approach to these braces, ceramic ones have no color at all and at times aren't
even visible from a certain distance. These use a lesser amount of friction
than the metal ones. The cons are that although they can't be seen easily, it
doesn't mean they are invisible. To some extent, they are always visible.
●
Invisalign:
An anytime
removable form of the aligner, these kinds of braces are available in plastic
material and are nearly impossible to notice when a person has these on. These
are custom-made and are replaceable in every two weeks. There is no limit to
eating and drinking anything. A slightly costly form of treatment, the cons are
that these can't be used in case of complex treatments and will only be
effective once worn for a long period. The pros are that it isn't visible at
all and can be removed when you wish to brush.
●
Lingual braces:
Lingual braces are
attached to the inner and non-visible side, i.e. the tongue’s side. These
braces consist of metal brackets and wires. The major advantage of using these
braces is that these aren’t visible from any angle. Lingual ones are slightly
uncomfortable and cause the problem of ulcers on the tongue. The cons of these
braces are that these braces are much costlier than the regular ones and are
also not good for severe cases. These are also difficult to clean.
●
Retainers:
Retainers cannot be
called braces as these are usually used post braces treatment to maintain the
structure of the teeth alignment until completely fixated. Available in
different types, these are custom-made based on everyone’s post-treatment
measurements and requirements. Mostly a part of the treatment, retainers don’t
come at an extra cost at times. The cons with them are that these aren’t the
treatment but only an extra cure and can’t be used in severe cases. The pros
are these are easily removable and mostly are asked to wear at night.
The above mentioned
are the types of braces available for you and can do wonders to your mouth
structure and smile. Your dentist decides what is best for you and what suits
your requirements, but to be honest there are many choices available for you
apart from the basic ones.
